stop signs

well i can’t do the numbers all up in my head

without wetting the paper and using my hands

and i have to sing right from the top

of the alphabet

well i had to buy earplugs for the grocery store

i don’t think i can listen to strangers anymore

and you tell me when it’s my turn

at the stop signs

will it make sense tomorrow

will numbers do nothing to me

is there something that i will outgrow

and stop dreaming there’s something behind me

well my knees have stopped working i wish i could too

got more things left to go than i’ve got hours to do

and you can’t forget to make time

for the laundry

yeah and that’s just another whose pile’s only grown

will i be satisfied with the things that i own

but i can’t help it at all

if a sale’s on

will it make sense tomorrow

will numbers do nothing to me

is there something that i will outgrow

and stop dreaming there’s something behind me
